The NetWork

Volume 1, Issue 1: The NetWork's Debut

January/February 2004

Across the globe, we finally have a place where we can all put our feet up on the coffee table, fluff the pillows, and TAKE OFF THE SUIT. Prop the laptop on your legs and bookmark The NetWork.

No “agendas” here. Well, other than to take your turn at the mic and say what’s on your mind. Oh yeah, and to become enlightened in a way you might never have before. In addition to our own writers, we’ve teamed up with the great people at The Independent Media Institute to bring you enlightening, provocative content... the conundrums of this world... let's discuss them and come up with solutions.

The RSS Feeds are updated WEEKLY, and the mag content is updated seven times a year. We want to grip you and get you talking, thinking. South Africa’s economic and political dynamic, Bush and The Iraq situation, the MBA world, Pop Culture, and everything in-between.

Yes, we are prospective and current MBAs.…. but we are variegated. Put most of us in a box, and we're miserable. Our VALs are constantly evolving- obnoxious and humble, charming when need-be, multi-talented, usually well-informed... yet the constant is that we're unapologetic about it all.

I contemplated the tone for “The Editor’s Desk”. Cool out vs. Corporate-speak? Sistah girl vs. Polished Professional? I’m a fusion of all of this, as I know many of you are. But, let’s just cool out here. There has to be an outlet for the conformity. And this is it. And to avoid 'writer's soliloquy', we're powered by Movable Type, so that you can instantly publish your comments and spark a dialogue on any particular piece.

Diversity. It’s dynamic. It’s me. It’s you.

It is not a buzzword.

This site is about inclusiveness. Not exclusivity. That being said, all races are featured in our magazine, all races are behind the nuts and bolts of this site. Feel free to be part of this initiative.

Make this site yours. Make this magazine yours. Let your voice be heard about a topic, even if you want to remain anonymous. So, in the end, we can all be better enlightened.

One Luv- One Life,
Keisha Dawn

P.S. Dedicating the premiere issue to Keith Clinkscales of Vanguarde Media (Savoy, Heart & Soul, and Honey magazines)
Keith, thank you for being our Big Brother and supporting the site. We know he’s got something else up his platinum cuff-linked sleeve… can’t wait to see what it is.

I can't thank Lex and Donna enough for doing the programming and design of the site. I think the ladies did a terrific job. *Hugs*

I definitely endorse Movable Type (www.movabletype.org) for weblogs, magazines, photoblogs, you name it. They are the most down to earth people and incredibly smart.

I wanted to say "thank you" for compiling a great team and launching this site. I've enjoyed participating in the forums, reading the weblogs, looking for my pic in the photo gallery, and now this new magazine!

It was nice to meet you off-line, I think you are a very genuine, talented person with a lot to offer a Business School. I've followed your posts all the way from last year on the BW forums... you've helped many get into B-school, and you've won my respect for that.

I look forward to reading more issues of the magazine!
