These last few weeks have been unbelievable. School has definitely hit full stride. Between the corporate presentations, classes, and extra-curricular activities, it’s difficult to find time to breathe. The great thing about it all is that I’ve met a ton of great people from all over the world. This experience really makes you appreciate the fact that there’s so much out there that most of us have been sheltered from. I know it’s been a while since my last post, and you may have been wondering why. It’s been crazy, at the beginning of this month I had to scramble to find and apartment- the one I was moving into fell through on the 27th of August and I had to be out of the one I was in by September 1st. Finding an apartment and moving in 3 days is no joke, thank God I did it though. That was rough and it caused me to fall behind in my schoolwork, I planned to catch up the next weekend (the weekend of the 5th) unfortunately that Friday night I ruptured my Achilles tendon. I had to have surgery and I’m on crutches for probably the next 10 weeks. That was a definite blow, but I’m ok. I’ll tell you what put everything in perspective for me. As I was laying in the hospital bed feeling terrible because of everything that was going on, I looked at the man in the bed next to me; his foot was wrapped but I didn’t know why. The doctors came in to check on him, when they unwrapped his foot I saw that he had 3 toes missing. I instantly felt guilty for feeling bad for myself because at least my tendon will heal in a couple of months, his toes will never grow back. I prayed and asked God to give me the strength that I would need to get through my situation and then thanked Him because my situation could have been much worse. So needless to say, it’s been difficult here. It’s not until you can’t walk that you realize that mobility represents freedom in a sense. It takes twice as long to get places, not to mention that the apartment that I’m living in is on the 5th floor of a walk-up. I’ll be okay though, but if you have a sec pray for me :)
National Black MBA conference is this weekend, I was going to go, but I doubt it now. It would be a logistical nightmare trying to get around on crutches. I’m a little worried that I won’t get the chance to connect with the companies that will be there but I’m hoping that if I’m tenacious enough I can make up for it. If you have the opportunity you should go though, I hear it’s a GREAT time. If you bump into any of my Wharton friends down there like Jblaze, Denyse, or Greg, tell them I said “hi”. ;-)
I have to run, I’m in the library now, trying to study and finish the 4 assignments I have that are all due on Wednesday.
And lastly, to anyone who’s out there trying to get his or her applications together, good luck. It’s definitely worth it, but they sure as hell make you work for it.
Oh yeah, almost forgot, wish me luck. I’m performing some stand up comedy at Stand up New York this Wednesday. It’s a little hobby of mine and I figured I’d give the NYC audience a try. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Take care
